FAQ's about Digital Images

Digital Files

Do I really want a CD?
This is a very valid question we believe you should ask yourself before even getting into the details. The most common reason most clients inquire about a CD is when “I just can’t choose which pictures I want”. Even though this is a good problem to have, it is not a good reason to invest in a CD. If this is the reason you’re toying with the idea of buying a CD, please instead schedule a consultation for portrait review with us. Sometimes all you need is an objective pair of eyes to look at your photos and help you select your ACTUAL favorites. Looking through the “mommy lens” is not always a benefit while trying to narrow down your choices. By letting us help you with your decision, you’ll be getting beautiful pieces of art ON YOUR WALL, as opposed to a CD collecting dust in a drawer somewhere.
Now, on the flip side of that… Have you already chosen the perfect portraits for your wall and now you just want some of the best or even the “outtakes” to have for keepsake reasons? We know every milestone, giggle and even pouty lip or cry is special to you. This is when an investment in a CD is the right choice.

So, I have to purchase a portrait collection if I’m going to buy a CD?
Yes, we require you to purchase a collection of printed portraits before you can purchase a CD. The reason for that is easy…. We want you to have a print in your hand on which we’ve put our “stamp of approval”, so that you know the quality we believe you SHOULD have in a print.

Can I print pictures from the CD?
You may print unlimited copies of your images up to an 8x10 size.

Do I own the copyright?
No. You are granted a Limited Usage Release.
Dana Ashlyn Photography retains the copyright to all photographs we take.

The digital images cost more than I think they should. Why? Why do some “photographers” offer CD’s for so cheap?

Do you offer refunds on images sold on CD.
No. Due to the nature of digital files no refunds will be issued.

What if I lose my CD or something happens to it after I take it home?
It is YOUR responsibility to keep your images safe once you leave with them. Backing up, storing in a safe place, off sight storing of a backup, and protecting against accidents, etc is up to you now. The studio is under no obligation to replace CD’s damaged or lost once in your hands. You may be able to purchase another CD for a discount in the event of such a disaster.

Can I edit my photos that I’ve purchased on CD?
We ask that you please limit the amount of editing that you do to our work. Making a color picture black and white or sepia is totally fine, but please don’t selective color or put trendy effects on our portraits. Remember that the reason for taking portraits is to create timeless works of art. Many of the effects and other various ways of editing images simply will not stand up to the test of even just a few short years, let alone many years. Remember, cleanly edited simple portraits make for beautiful heirlooms that never go out of style. Stay classy, folks. ;-)

Why can I only print up to an 8x10 with the high res CD?
For quality control purposes, we require you to print large portraits, canvases, etc through the studio. This guarantees that we are able to control and maintain the level of quality wall art that we believe should be displayed in our work.
